Prishe

Far, far away, in a world other than our own—Vana'diel—there once was a nation called the Marquisate of Tavnazia that had known a glorious age of prosperity until the beastman armies descended in an all-out assault and laid it waste. Amid the chaos of the invasion, a cardinal of the Tavnazian Cathedral ushered the surviving populace to the safety of a subterranean harbor, where they went on to build Tavnazia anew.

There, within the Tavnazian Safehold, was a young woman named Prishe, who was called the "abhorrent one" and served as the leader of the Tavnazian Patrol. Joined by her close friend Ulmia, a member of the Tavnazian choir, and an adventurer who had washed up on Tavnazia's shores, Prishe set forth to seek an audience with Bahamut, the Wyrmking—to speak directly with the living god depicted in a painting of the celestial capital.

There they overheard Bahamut speaking of the Keeper of the Apocalypse. But then a combat airship seeking to capture Bahamut suddenly appeared, and while Prishe and her companions fought against it, they were swept away, ending up all the way in the Republic of Bastok.

While attempting to offer prayer at the Temple of the Goddess in Upper Jeuno, Prishe suddenly lost consciousness and fell into a deep sleep from which she could not be roused. For within her dreams, she had been ensnared by the terrestrial avatar Diabolos, ruler of dreams.

Diabolos explained that now that the Keeper of the Apocalypse had arrived, there was nothing left for the children of Altana but annihilation. Yet within the world of dreams, he claimed, people could live on for all eternity, and he bade Prishe surrender herself to the dream.\n\nBut Prishe flatly rejected him. "People can do anything if they don't give up hope!"

Upon awakening from the dream, Prishe returned to Tavnazia, where Bahamut was, to learn more about the Keeper of the Apocalypse.\n\nHowever, because she was branded "the abhorrent one," the elders and other keepers of the old ways ordered that she be confined to her quarters, hidden from public view.

Following Prishe's confinement, Ulmia went to meet Bahamut in her stead and learned of a pact to destroy all mankind the day the Keeper of the Apocalypse returned to Vana'diel.

It appeared that Promathia, the Twilight God of Vana'diel, was somehow involved. Promathia was the counterpart to the Goddess Altana, whom Prishe worshipped. It was said that his curse, unleashed on humans created by the Goddess, doomed them to an eternity of strife, and that he had brought forth the beastmen to torment mankind.

After hearing about this revelation from Tenzen, a samurai come from the Far East to divine the will of Promathia, Prishe snuck out of her quarters and led him and the adventurer into the Sacrarium. And there, coming into contact with the stone statue of the Twilight God that was never supposed to be touched, she resonated with it and grasped that what the Twilight God desired was his own resurrection and his own death.

Harshly reprimanded by the elder for doing so, Prishe decided to depart from Tavnazia, the place she had called home for twenty years, to set out and save Vana'diel.

During her journey, Prishe was swallowed by the Emptiness and came once more before Diabolos, who lures those the darkness claims into a world of dreams. In that meeting, she realized that the pact by which Bahamut would destroy mankind could be broken.

Prishe recovered the magicite that had sealed the Emptiness once contained within her. She believed that by resurrecting the Twilight God and dying along with the magicite—as she herself was the Keeper of the Apocalypse—she could stop Bahamut and save Vana'diel.

Once more, Prishe stood before Bahamut. "Watch as we show you the children of the dawn's true power!"

However, there was a flaw in Prishe's reasoning. It was not Prishe's death that was required to stop the fulfillment of Bahamut's pact.

In order to defeat the true enemy, Prishe headed toward the celestial capital revealed to her by Bahamut. "Vana'diel's not finished yet! At least not if I have anything to say about it!"

Fighting alongside the adventurer who had stood with her through every battle, Prishe challenged the Twilight God, now descended at long last. "There will be no apocalypse! We were born for the purpose of living!"

Together, Prishe and her companions defeated the Twilight God, saving Vana'diel from oblivion. And when the long shadow of Promathia had passed, peace returned at last to Tavnazia as well.
