Fishing Minigame

This surprisingly in-depth minigame is only unlocked after defeating the boss in Route 6. The minigame itself involves, as the name suggests, fishing.

Currently, the only fishing location is in Route 6 of the 4th Abyss, more specifically South Lakeshore.

Request Line

There is a chain of requests that can be completed that essentially functions as a tutorial for the various fishing functions.

The gist of it goes:

  1. Accept initial fishing request at Adventurer's Guild in Isberg.
  2. Head to Route 6 and an old man NPC will give you a tutorial on fishing, by making you fish small versions of 3 fish.
  3. Complete his request and then learn how to fish small versions for the initial request.
  4. Turn in small trout to initial request and cursed wheel to accept the request again, but this time you are more experienced.
  5. Heading back to Route 6, the old man NPC will give you a tutorial on more advanced fishing techniques, by making you fish medium versions of 3 fish.
  6. Complete his request and then learn how to fish for medium versions for the initial request.
  7. Turn in medium trout to initial request.
  8. Instead of cursed wheeling, head to the Tavern and talk to the servant on the right to accept his request for fishing both small and large versions of 2 new fish. Finishing this unlocks the highest tier bait.
  9. Cursed Wheel and accept the inital request. Skip talking to the old man, and go directly to fish for the Large Trout with highest tier bait (you might want to farm some).

Your First Dialogue with Fish

Firstly, you need to accept the Fisherman of Rockhome request in the Adventurer's guild. Selecting the option that you don't know how to fish will end the request. Lie that you know how to fish, and Hart will hand you some fishing equipment to begin fishing. Head over to Route 6. You will begin with Paste Bait that you can buy more of at the Item Shop.

Talking to the old man will have him recognize that you suck. He will teach you how to fish before telling you how to fish for the Winter Trout. He will want you to obtain two small Rockhome Bass and two small Snowy Redfin. You can ask him about the specifics on how to fish these particular fish. These two fish don't really have any specifics, so you can just randomly fish and fulfill this request.

A Dialogue with Bottom-Dwellers

After turning the the fish from the previous requests, he'll ask for two Chillbottom Catfish. This will introduce the Depth mechanic, in which certain fish can only be caught in certain depths. You will need to set your depth to 15, and in addition, you will want to fish to the right side. This can be easily guaranteed by moving ur rod all the way to the right until you cannot cast your rod anymore, then move slightly to the left.

Fisherman of Rockhome (small)

After turning in the two Chillbottom Catfish, the old man will provide you with Special Paste Bait that can be used to catch small winter trout. He will also mention that you need to fish for them at the middle depth, which is around 7-9m deep. He will also mention to you to not reel in your rod too fast, or else the line can snap. This part of the request introduces the Failure mechanic where it's possible for the fish to get away. This is due to Winter Trout having a "Frenzy" mechanic where they will actively fight the rod, which severely increases the tension both audibly and visually. To counter this, simply stop reeling in entirely, but hold the line until the fish calms down. Successfully capture three Winter Trout and turn in the request at the Adventurer's guild to complete it. Lulunarde will comment at the pier when the request is completed. If you run out of Special Paste Bait, you can talk to the Old Man and he'll give you more.

Lord of Lakeshore's Test of Skill

Cursed Wheel and accept the Fisherman of Rockhome request again. Go through the same dialogue options as before, but this time Hart will note that you seem to have some experience. Head back to Route 6 and this time the old man will recognize that you know how to fish, but that you still suck. He will ask you to fish two of each fish he previously asked for, but this time in Medium size. The medium versions of the fish have their own peculiarities that you will need to account for. This time you have access to Earthworm bait, which allows for you to catch the Medium versions of each fish.

General gist of each medium fish:

  • Rockhome Bass: No specifics. Just select Depth 5, use Earthworms, and cast wherever. Bobber will generally go down after a few bobs.
  • Snowy Redfin: Select Depth 5, use Earthworms, and cast the line very far (close to the spike on the meter). Bobber will generally slightly go down for a very long time before entirely sinking.
  • Chillbottom Catfish: Select Depth 15, use Earthworms, and cast the line close to the pier (just let go immediately). Bobber will generally go down after a few bobs.

Fisherman of Rockhome (medium)

After completing the Test of Skill, the old man will tell you how to catch medium Winter Trout. You will also be given Red Wigglers which help catch the fish. He will also tell you about the Luring mechanic, which is simply holding the rod and moving it up and down for a while in order to entice certain fish.

Generally, medium Winter Trout are caught in medium depth (8-10m) and you need to cast the line very far (close to spike on the meter). The bobber will generally go down after a few bobs. As with Winter Trout, it has some Frenzy phases and also boss music.

Simply capture three medium trout. Upon doing so, Lulunarde will comment at the pier that you've completed the request with the Medium Trout. This doesn't need to be done all in one go. Return to the Adventurer's Guild to turn it in. Completing this will give you an additional 20k Gold.

As My Lord Says

Heading to the Tavern after turning in Medium Winter Trout Fisherman of Rockhome will spawn in a servant who begs you to help him catch fish. He will ask of you to catch Fatty Winter Salmon and Demon Eel. He will initially as for small versions, but then change his mind and ask for medium versions after you turn in the small ones. He will initially give you some Garlic Infused Paste Bait for the small versions, but then eventually give you Snow Rabbit Strips (unlocked farmable bait) for the medium versions.

General gist of each small fish: - Fatty Winter Salmon: Select Depth 13 and use the Garlic Infused Paste Bait. Cast the line either far or medium, but not close. You can only catch this with a Power Hookset, which requires you to lower the rod then flick up immediately. - Demon Eel: Select Depth 15 and use the Garlic Infused Paste Bait. Cast the line either far or medium, but not close. The bobber will go down to cover the sphere only a few times, then only go slightly deeper than that for the real bait.

General gist of each medium fish: - Fatty Winter Salmon: Select Depth 13 and use the Snow Rabbit Strips. Cast the line far. You can only catch this with a Power Hookset, which requires you to lower the rod then flick up immediately. - Demon Eel: Select Depth 15 and use the Snow Rabbit Strips. Cast the line neither far nor close. The bobber will go down to cover the sphere only a few times, then only go slightly deeper than that for the real bait.

After turning in the medium fish, he will give you Abyssal Insect Larva and Dragonfly Larva, which are farmable bait needed to fish Big Winter Trout.

Fisherman of Rockhome (large)

Cursed wheel, farm some more of the Insect bait, and head to route 6 again after accepting the request.

Capture three large trout. Upon doing so, Lulunarde will comment at the pier that you've completed the request with Large Trout. This doesn't need to be done all in one go. Return to the Adventurer's Guild to turn it in. Completing this will give you an additional 50k Gold. You will also obtain an achievement for impressing Hart.
