Overview

Introduction

  • The purpose of this page is to assist any players that are missing a corrosion sentry in their Cursed Wheel. It is a mechanic that is poorly explained, but critical to the endings and access to the Rank 12 Bounty - Cyclops.
  • The "True" version of the Greater Warped One (GWO) can only be fought after registering all 13 Corrosion Sentries.

Corrosion Mechanics

Corrosion
  • Central mechanic of the Fortress with major changes to what areas are accessible depending on its level
  • Increased when your party enters the field of view of a corrosion sentry
  • Cannot be decreased while in the Fortress, but can be changed in the Cursed Wheel
  • Fortress Appearance: Wall goo becomes more prominent with higher corrosion
  • Requests: Some requests become unavailable as essential NPCs are driven insane or die as a result of higher corrosion, which affects what endings are available
  • Monsters: Different monsters spawn, with stronger monsters at lower corrosion
  • Greater Warped One: The Greater Warped One is much stronger at lower corrosion, gaining new abilities and increased damage and health
  • Total of 13 corrosion sentries that appear as stationary flying enemies
  • Stepping into their field of view sounds an alarm, increases the Fortress's corrosion level, and counts as a "Spotted" flag in the Cursed Wheel
  • Corrosion sentries are not the same as standard floor sentries, which are simply powered-up normal enemies
  • Easy way to tell your level of corrosion during the end game
  • Cursed Wheel to Fortress 3rd Floor Arrival and check the map

Golems
  • Golems walk forwards when activated, destroying traps, damaged walls, and sentries in their path until they reach a solid wall or door
  • Golems are only available after reaching Zone 10 on a first run and acquiring the golem reversal power before fighting the GWO

Corrosion Sentry Registration

Requirements
  • To register a corrosion sentry the following must be true:

    • "Spotted" at least once
    • "Not Spotted" at least once
    • Started at a Cursed Wheel node BEFORE encountering the corrosion sentry on the normal progression path AND made it to the next Cursed Wheel node without exiting, wheeling, or "accepting death"
  • Any corrosion sentry you have registered is permanently saved on your account and will appear as a toggle if you run a different faction. They only need to be registered once!

Flag Definitions
  • "Spotted" = Entering a corrosion sentry's field of view
  • "Not Spotted" = Moving past a corrosion sentry without entering its field of view, which requires the golem reversal power
  • The "Spotted" and "Not Spotted" designations are hidden flags the game tracks.
  • The flags are only permanently saved after reaching the next Cursed Wheel node along the normal progression route.
  • During a first run you will be automatically "Spotted" by every corrosion sentry in order to progress. A small number of corrosion sentries are located in areas that cannot be accessed until the overall Abyss corrosion level is lowered
  • The golem reveral power can be used to block a corrosion sentry's field of view or crush them outright. Note that normal sentries have no effect on flags, registration, or the Abyss corruption level
Node Definitions
  • Start node
    • The node you wheel to first at the beginning of the process
    • The game requires a fresh encounter with the corrosion sentry for its flags to update
  • Register node
    • Node where you end a run and update any flags
    • Node that the corrosion sentry is listed under when it becomes available in the Cursed Wheel
    • Note that you can never register a corrosion sentry by wheeling to its own node as the starting point
  • Flags need to be triggered using the correct starting and ending Cursed Wheel nodes
  • The guide uses "Start" and "Register" nodes throughout
Putting it All Together
  • Each corrosion sentry requires a separate run (Start node > Register node) for each flag ("Spotted" and "Not Spotted")
  • Once both flags are registered correctly the corrosion sentry will appear in the Cursed Wheel
  • Corrosion sentries in the Cursed Wheel can be toggled ("Spotted" or "Not Spotted") to manipulate the Fortress's overall corrosion level

  • The guide is structured as a series of nested drop-down menus that can be kept open or collapsed. Each entry has a [#] that follows the order of appearance in the Cursed Wheel.
  • The guide uses the full name where possible of each floor and Cursed Wheel node.
  • In Abyss 3 the floors are called "Zones".
  • A few of the Cursed Wheel nodes have more than one corrosion sentry. These corrosion sentries have an additional prefix ("2F North" Corrosion Sentry) to distinguish them from each other.
  • Common Abbreviations:
    • Abyss #: Abyss 3 would be "A3"
    • Cursed Wheel: CW
    • Greater Warped One: GWO
    • GWO #: The # refers to the number of "Spotted" corrosion sentries out of 13
  • Some corrosion sentries require a low Abyss corrosion level to access their hallway or room.
  • They are marked with a [LC]* tag.
  • We do not know the exact values for each one. Before you try to register them make sure you have set all available corrosion sentries to "Not spotted" and you should have no problems.
Greater Warped One Variations
  • The overall Abyss corrosion level impacts what version of the GWO you fight, which becomes more challenging at lower corrosion levels.
  • You will often see references on this website, Discord, and Reddit to GWO #. This refers to the number of corrosion sentries that need to be set to "Spotted" (out of 13) for that specific version of the fight.
  • GWO 8: Required for the Blackmail ending.
  • GWO 6: Required for the Mastermind ending.
  • GWO 0: Required on the Mastermind ending to get the "super" version of the fight for the hidden achievement and access to the Rank 12 Bounty Cyclops.
    • Fighting GWO 0 on the Blackmail ending is a different, easier fight and does not count.
    • GWO 0 means that every single toggle is set to "Not Spotted" aka zero (0) set to "Spotted".
  • A low Abyss corrosion level is needed to access some rooms or side areas throughout the Abyss.
  • If you have registered all 13 corrosion sentries, then things are straight forward - just toggle the desired number of corrosion sentries to "Spotted".
  • If you do not have all 13 registered, then you need to do a little math.
  • Any corrosion sentry that you have not registered is automatically counted as "Spotted".
  • You need to change your toggles before you jump to Fortress Third Floor Arrival (Zone 10 Fountain) to fight the GWO.
  • See Example tabs for the basic math.
  • There is another way to quickly double-check you have the correct room size by jumping to Zone 10 and looking at the size of Ixion's room. See tabs for the picture.
  • You have 10 registered and want to fight GWO 8.
  • The 3 (out of 13) not registered count toward the "Spotted" total.
  • Therefore, you would need to toggle 5 to "Spotted" and 5 to "Not Spotted".
  • 3 not registered (automatically set to "Spotted") + 5 registered and set to "Spotted" = 8 total "Spotted"
  • You have 8 registered and want to fight GWO 6.
  • The 5 (out of 13) not registered count toward the "Spotted" total.
  • You would toggle 1 of your registered sentries to "Spotted" and the other 7 to "Not Spotted".
  • 5 not registered (automatically set to "Spotted") + 1 registered and set to "Spotted" = 6 total "Spotted"
  • The red numbers refer to how many sentries have been toggled (or defaulted) to "Spotted."

  • From Hidden Passage walk the full length of Zone 1 until you reach the corrosion sentry in the bottom left-hand corner. Its location does not change even with different map variations

  • To register exit via the Zone 1 Harken (Secret Passage Minor Harken)

  • To register proceed to the Zone 2 Fountain (Enshadowed Well of Life)
  • To exit:
    • Use a Hook of Harken
    • Take the path back to the Zone 1 Harken
    • Defeat the Necrocore boss to access the Zone 3 Harken

  • From the corrosion sentry [3] exit through the southern door
  • Ignore the sentry to the immediate left and keep heading south. Turn right and pass 2 small dungeon cells. At the end of the path there is a dead-end with a drop-down hole to Zone 3
  • Once you land in Zone 3 go left, up, right, up and take the stairs to Zone 2
  • Head through the 1-way door. Take the stairs directly in front of you to return to the Zone 1 Harken and exit

  • From the Zone 2 Fountain follow the light blue and green paths
  • The Necrocore boss must be defeated to access the Zone 3 Harken to exit

  • From the Zone 2 Fountain head south through the door and follow the path to the right to the large room
  • Ignore the golem directly in front of you
  • Head south and approach the corrosion sentry carefully as it has a large field of view
  • Push the southern golem to the left > "Not Spotted" flag triggered
  • The golem only partially blocks the corrosion sentry's field of view and you can still be "Spotted"
  • To register defeat the Necrocore boss (Secret Path Keeper Vanquished) located at the end of Zone 3
  • To exit use the the Zone 3 Harken

  • Ignore the golem directly in front of you and head north. The corruption sentry is in an alcove in the upper right-hand corner
  • Stand in its field of view > "Spotted" flag triggered
  • To register defeat the Necrocore boss (Secret Path Keeper Vanquished) located at the end of Zone 3
  • To exit use the the Zone 3 Harken

  • To the south is corrosion sentry [3] that can be registered in the same run

    Potential Exploit
    • Some players have reported a bug that can trigger the "Spotted" flag without defeating the Necrocore boss
    • Steps
      • Wheel to Enshadowed Well of Life (Zone 2 Fountain), get "Spotted", and then exit via a Hook of Harken or the Zone 1 Harken
      • Once back in town wheel to Secret Path Keeper Vanquished and then exit via the Zone 3 Harken
      • Do a "Not Spotted" run to see if the corrosion sentry appears in the Cursed Wheel
    • The bug may have been patched, so proceed at your own risk

  • To register proceed to the end of Zone 7 and defeat the Doll boss (Ghosts of Yore Vanquished)
  • To exit use the Zone 7 Harken

  • Alternative Doll kill method:
    • Fighting the Doll boss again is not mandatory
    • It can be crushed with a golem for a hidden achievement

Important Notes for [8] and [9]
  • To register corrosion sentries [8] and [9] you must do the entire route from the Zone 7 Harken (Ghosts of Yore Vanquished) to the Zone 9 Harken (Fortress 2F Minor Harken) without exiting, wheeling, or "accepting death"
  • Corrosion sentry [9] is encountered before [8], but are listed in the opposite order in the Cursed Wheel
  • Scroll down and start with corrosion sentry [9] first

Corosion sentry [9] requires a low Abyss corrosion level to access the room. Make sure you toggle all corrosion sentry toggles to "Not spotted" beforehand

  • Both corrosion sentries can be registered at the same time to avoid multiple runs

2F North Corrosion Sentry

Directions

  • From the Zone 7 Harken proceed through the Fortress (Zones 8-10) until you reach Zone 10, which has a fixed map layout
  • The final room in Zone 10 has 2 golems, a sentry, and a drop-down hole in the bottom-left corner
  • Push the top golem to the right to block the sentry's field of view
  • Push the bottom golem down to create a new drop-down hole to Zone 9
  • Drop down the new hole and you will land behind the corrosion sentry > "Not Spotted" flag triggered
  • To register go to the Zone 9 Harken on the other side of the hallway and exit

  • Warning! Do not use the bottom-left drop-down as you will be "Spotted" when you land

  • The next room has the automaton and mini-quest

Cursed Wheel

  • Start: Ghosts of Yore Vanquished (Zone 7 Harken)
  • Register: Fortress 2F Minor Harken (Zone 9 Harken)

Directions

  • From the Zone 7 Harken proceed through Zones 8-10 until you reach Zone 10, which has a fixed map layout
  • North of the stairs to Zone 9 there will be a room with a golem in it. Push the golem to the right to break the wall
  • In the adjacent room examine the skeleton, which will spawn an automaton and a map on the floor nearby
  • The map marks the locations of 3 winding keys on the previous floors (Zones 8 and 9)
  • Return to Zone 10 after collecting the winding keys and interact with the automaton
  • Exit the room and walk into the hallway with the corrosion sentry. The automaton will activate and the corrosion sentry will give chase > "Not Spotted" flag triggered
  • To register continue north to the last room in Zone 10, drop down the hole to Zone 9, and exit via the Zone 9 Harken (Fortress 2F Minor Harken) across the hallway

Notes

  • Danger! Do not enter the hallway with the corrosion sentry to avoid being "Spotted
  • Corrosion sentry [8] can be registered in the same run in the last room in Zone 10
Mini-Quest: Winding Keys
  • The locations of the 3 winding keys are marked on your map with a yellow "!" symbol
  • The keys are always in the same location (tile set) even with different map variations
  • There are 2 keys in Zone 8 and 1 key in Zone 9

  • Located in Zone 9
  • There is a roaming sentry circling the outer area

  • Located in Zone 8
  • Next to the room with a golem and 3 breakable walls

  • Located in Zone 8
  • In the hallway with 3 roaming sentries that move back-and-forth through the hallways
  • Be careful as it is easy to be spotted

Fortress 3rd Floor Arrival

Read Me - Critical Bug

  • Corrosion sentries [10] and [12] cannot be registered properly at the Zone 10 Fountain (Fortress 3rd Floor Arrival)
  • Normally you would reach the Fountain and take the nearby portal to register, which works properly with [11] and [13].
  • The actual registration node is reaching the GWO fight. You do not have to kill him or survive the battle. You can let your MC die and "Accept Death" to speed things up
  • This bug has been present since A3 launched and it is unlikely that it will be fixed in a future patch

When should I attempt this?

  • The best time is during your first run of the Blackmail ending.
  • It is possible to register the final 4 corrosion sentries [10]-[13] in one run.

Cursed Wheel Settings

  • Toggle the corrosion sentries to 8 "Spotted" for the Blackmail ending or 6 "Spotted" for the Mastermind ending
  • See "Greater Warped One Variations" for details instructions
  • Toggle Abducted Child to "Rescued Safely"
  • Leap to Fortress 2F Minor Harken (Zone 9 Harken)

Guide

  • The goal is to go from the Zone 9 Harken, rest at the Zone 10 Fountain, and proceed onward to Ixion's room and the GWO fight
  • It is critical that you not enter the Solider's Room or Servant's Quarters
  • When you reach Ixion's speak to Dalian (GWO 8, Blackmail) or Clemente (GWO 6, Mastermind) and have over the evidence
  • Proceed to the GWO and either kill it or let MC die ("Accept death")
  • When you're back in town check to see if the corrosion sentries were registered properly
Important Notes for [10]-[13]
  • Corrosion sentries [10]-[13] are the most time-intensive to register
  • Corrosion sentries [10] and [12] you will not be "Spotted" on a first run as they are inaccessible and tied to requests related to the endings
  • Corrosion sentry [10]: Search for the Missing Girl
    • Request must be active
    • Requires low Abyss corrosion to enter the door
  • Corrosion sentry [12]: Blackmail Resolution
    • Request must be active
    • Requires a key to enter that you will receive as part of the request
  • It is more time efficient to register all 4 corrosion sentries using the steps listed under "Read Me - Critical Bug"
  • When you go to register [10] and [12] their ([11] and [13] rooms are required to pass through to reach the GWO
  • You still need to take the steps to block their field of view or crush them ("Not Spotted")
  • Remember that you cannot exit, wheel, or "accept death" at any point on this run until you reach the GWO

Directions

  • Visiting this room is a required step to complete the Search for the Missing Girl request
  • Inspect the bookcase and pick up the Tattered Rag (Valuable) > "Spotted" flag triggered
  • Proceed to the Zone 10 Fountain to register
  • To exit:
    • From the Fountain go across the hallway and take the southern purple portal
    • The inaccessible rooms, northern 2 portals, and statues are tied to the Mastermind ending and can be ignored
    • You will be teleported to Zone 9 and can take the nearby Harken to exit
  • Warning! If you use a Hook of Harken to exit, then it is unknown whether the "Spotted" flag is saved or not

Time-saver

  • After you drop down to Zone 8 and visit the Servant's Room the only way to exit is via the Zone 10 portal
  • You will encounter corrosion sentries [10] and [13] along your way since their rooms are required to pass through to progress to Zone 10. Be sure to do both of them using the "Not Spotted" directions and they should register properly in the Cursed Wheel.

Cursed Wheel

  • Start: Fortress 2F Minor Harken (Zone 9 Harken)
  • Register:
    • Blackmail (GWO 8) or Mastermind (GWO 6) ending
    • Encounter the GWO, you can have the MC die ("Accept Death") or defeat it

Time-Saver

  • We recommend you do this run when you are ready to complete the "Blackmail" ending. If done properly you can register all 4 of them at the same time. You can register [12] at the same time and complete [11] and [13] if they are not already registered properly
  • This one run allows you to complete the last set of 4 corrosion sentries

Directions

  • Start at the Zone 9 Harken. Your goal is to make it to the end of the hallway and use the drop-down hole to reach Zone 8.
  • The long hallway has a roaming sentry that paces up and down. You can follow behind it and immediately hide in the first alcove. Once it passes by again continue south to the next side hallway and drop down the hole.
  • When you drop-down to Zone 8 do NOT enter the room > "Not Spotted" flag triggered
  • To register you must head to the Zone 10 Fountain (do NOT exit) and then fight GWO 6 (Mastermind ending) or GWO 8 (Blackmail ending) as the registration node is Triumphant Return

  • Corrosion sentry [12] (2F Soldier's Room) also requires a separate "Not Spotted" run where you ignore the corrosion sentry and do not enter its room. It is recommended to do both at the same time

  • Proceed to the end of Zone 8. This room has a fixed location and will always be in the bottom-left corner
  • See Golem Directions to crush the corrosion sentry > "Not Spotted" flag triggered
  • Exit the room through the newly created hole in the wall
  • To register continue through Zone 9 to the Zone 10 Fountain (Fortress 3rd Floor Arrival)
  • To exit use the southern teleport tile in Zone 10 to warp to the Zone 9 Harken

Warning

  • It remains unclear if the "Spotted" registration node is the Zone 10 Fountain or Triumphant Return (Blackmail or Mastermind ending)
  • Recommend that you do not waste time trying to defeat the GWO until AFTER you have done a "Not Spotted" run
  • If it does not appear in the Cursed Wheel after a "Not Spotted" run, then come back and try it again
  • To exit head to the Zone 10 Fountain and then southern teleport to warp to the Zone 9 Harken

  • Push the final golem (4) to the left to open the door to the switch room
  • Flip the switch and all the remaining doors will unlock

  • Warning! This room might be rotated, but the pushing order remains the same. Use the entrance door as a reference point
